We completed a full renovation of James Dixon House, a children's care home in Wilpshire, transforming a rundown building into a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment. This project involved comprehensive interior and exterior work, delivered on time and to exceptional standards, exceeding client expectations and securing future projects.
James Dixon House required a complete overhaul to meet the needs of a modern children's care home. The building was rundown, with outdated systems, requiring extensive renovations to ensure safety, comfort, and functionality.
We provided a comprehensive, end-to-end solution, acting as the main contractor and orchestrating all trades:
Full Interior Renovation: Complete electrical rewire, new plumbing and heating system, and installation of three new bathrooms with modern fixtures (showers, baths, toilets, sinks, and DMEV fans).
Modern Kitchen Installation: New kitchen from Howden's, including extraction, storage, an American fridge freezer, and custom-built walls and racking to ensure child safety.
Dedicated Office Space: Construction of a functional office with office-style trunking for adding sockets and internet cables.
Advanced Fire Safety System: Installation of a full fire alarm system, tested and commissioned by a specialised company. The system is linked directly to the fire station and includes mag locks on windows and doors that release in case of fire. Internal doors were replaced with fire-resistant doors to provide 30 minutes to 2 hours of protection.
Exterior Enhancements: Painting of the building exterior, landscaping, and installation of a new flat roof on the garage.
On-Time Completion: The project was completed on time (within the 14-week target), demonstrating exceptional project management skills.
Exceeded Expectations: The client, Child Action North West, was extremely satisfied with the results and plans to use us for future projects.
Exceptional Quality: The Architect, Paul Gudgeon, praised the project as "one of the best finishes he's ever seen," highlighting the high quality of workmanship and attention to detail.
Enhanced Safety & Comfort: James Dixon House is now a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for the children in it's care, equipped with modern amenities and advanced safety features.
Secured Future Projects: D Blackburn Contractors is now under consideration for a larger, two-year project next door, based on the success of this renovation.
